CURRENT Bargaining Updates

5/28/23
The ACT bargaining team met with the district bargaining team after a 2 month hiatus. We discussed Article 17, Leaves and Article 19, Salary. We also discussed the calendar MOU and ironed out the details of the first 3 days of school for elementary.

For Article 17, the district did not accept paying members when they are assaulted at work after workman’s comp runs out. If an employee is missing more than 60 days of work, the employee would be required to use a third of a day’s sick time, for each day they miss. When sick time is exhausted, they can pay sub differential for the next 100 days. We also discussed maternity and paternity leaves and we are working to finalize language on paid pregnancy and paternity leave.

For Article 19, ACT asked to remove the cap on years of services, instead of capping it at 25 years and the district did not agree to remove the cap.

The district offered ACT Members a 0% raise for the 2025/2026 AND 2026/2027 school years (in the Ca State budget May revise the CoLA is 2.3%). They are offering a 6% raise when the district reaches Basic Aid, which is estimated to be the 2027/2028 school year. ACT did not agree to this and asked to revisit Article 19 in September when the 2025/2026 unaudited actuals are presented at the September Board Meeting.

03/04/25 (3rd session on calendar)

Today ACT again proposed to CUSD the ACT created 25-26 calendar that starts on August 18, 2025 as the first member workday.

ACT stated that we would finalize a TA today on the 25-26 calendar, but CUSD stated they will only accept a 2 year deal.

ACT then proposed a modified version of the 26-27 calendar committee created calendar with a member return to work day of August 3, 2026 and a final workday of May 26th, 2027. This calendar includes terms that are more balanced than the original proposal, a proposed start workday of a Monday, and a teacher workday of December 18, 2026 for grading completion prior to winter break. A PD day of January 5, 2027 is also included. This calendar proposal was tied to a one time stipend of $4,500 per member returning from the 25-26 school year, payable in September of 2026.

The proposed 26-27 calendar can be seen at this link.

This proposal takes into account member input/feedback, calendar committee work, board member comments, and the three weeks of lost summer break

We are currently waiting to hear back from the district as to our proposal and the next bargaining date.

2/18/25 (2nd Bargaining Session on Calendar)
Thank you to everyone for coming out to vote for calendars. Your bargaining team met today with the district negotiation team to share the results of our vote and the calendars that the members voted on. Discussions will be ongoing as we work together to find a calendar that meets everyone's needs.
Per our MOU, the calendar committee was created to give a recommendation to negotiation teams. Your ACT bargaining team created calendars based on recent survey results from ACT members, the information from the calendar committee and contract language.

We have heard from many members that you have no desire to start on a Monday. Our version of the calendar took this information into account. The calendar committee did not come to a unanimous vote for a calendar. The results from the CHS survey of students showed that more than twice as many students do not want a change in the calendar.

We also want to thank our members for serving on the calendar committee and providing input to that committee. This work helped to develop one of the three calendars that was voted on by membership.
